Ecotourism is the main tourist characteristic of Tocantins. The reason can be seen in the wonderful variety within the regions of the state. Here, you can find the resurgence of the phenomenon Fervedouro, the beautiful scenery of humid paths of buritizais (a native palm three that grows by waters) of Jalapão, where the golden grass flourishes. Discover natural pools and voluminous waterfalls of sparkling crystal waters, the mystery of the mountain range in Dianópolis, the green mountains of Taquaruçu, the meeting of three major ecosystems of Brazil (savanna, marshland and Amazonian forest), twisted trees together in Cantão, the fishing wealth of Lagoa da Confusão (Lake of Confusion) and Caseara, the cultural heritage of indigenous ethnic groups, in addition to the world's largest river island, which houses more then 1,500 rare species, the Bananal Island. Adventure tourism, as well as ecotourism, is emerging as a segment that attracts hundreds of tourists to Tocantins. Enjoy rafting in the winding rivers of Dianópolis and the rapids of Rio Novo in Jalapão. Taquaruçu offers adventurous itineraries with winding trails and large waterfalls. In the capital, Palmas, cycle tourism is the lattest fashion and it is common to see cyclists on the broad avenues heading toward the mountain range that frames the city or touring the State on two wheels.
